Well, I thought I'd give a brief update on the kids' health...Carissa's rash seems to be gone. She responded to the second antibiotic well and it behaved normally after that. She still itches occasionally, but not often enough for me to be worried.
Despite Carissa being better though, lightning seems to have struck another member of our family...Yesterday morning Isaiah threw up. I thought it was just because he slept through dinner the night before and figured he'd be up and about in no time. I kept him home just to make sure and when he didn't bounce back right away and even ran a slight fever, I knew it was something more. I took him to the doctor today and sure enough...he has strep. Now why can't he have gotten it when Carissa did? And why do my kids always get sicker than normal when my doctor has the day off because he is on call? And why did it have to be Isaiah who is allergic to amoxicillan (the usual treatment for strep)? We went to go pick up his antibiotic, which they had to look up what to give him, and the store didn't even carry it. It will be ready tomorrow. What can happen next? Maybe I shouldn't even ask.

Life as a 4-yr. Old
So, the other day Jacob gave me a few good laughs...First, in the morning I gave Joseph some candy or something and he said, "mummm, mummm, mummm" (His way of letting us know he likes something.) Jacob came in all smiles and said, "Joseph is saying 'yummy' in Spanish!"
Then that afternoon both he and Carissa made me smile. (Kind of) She came in all upset and huffy saying, "Jacob hit me in the ear." Well of course he was in trouble. I called him in and he had his defense all ready: "Me said for her to get away. Me said get away from me, but it wasn't working." It sounded logical to me. After confirming this story with Carissa who grudgingly admitted he did tell her to get away, I just told her to respect him, told him to come get me next time, and sent them away shaking my head as they went.

Halloween 2009
Well, this was a fun Halloween. Friday night was the Fall Festival at the kids' school. We went and played games, ate nachos, and had fun.
The kids looked really cute in their costumes and got a lot of complements. David's costume came from my brother, Clinton, who picked it up on base. We had people asking us where we got it. Thank you Clinton! David was so excited to be a R***** Paratrooper just like him.

Saturday morning we woke up and got right to work carving pumpkins. Each of the kids picked a design from the books and we all worked scooping them out, poking the holes, and sawing the designs. It was fun and I think they turned out pretty good. One cool thing was that in David's and Isaiah's pumpkins were seeds that had sprouted. I had never seen that before.

Jacob's cat, Aaron's and my "Steamboat",
Isaiah's bat (In tribute to Batman of course),
and Carissa's tiny pumpkins.

One of the things they had was a raffle for baskets put together by each class. My parents bought some tickets and one of them won! They graciously said the kids could keep it. It's a "Rainy-Day" basket of toys from the dollar store. I think we're going to save it for Christmas or as incentive for cleaning. Either way it will be lots of fun and we can't wait to open it! (Although I still would have liked to have won the Dr. Pepper products basket or the chocolate lovers basket.)

David's gargoyle he carved all by himself, along
with Joseph's small pumpkin...I'm not sure what
happened to the smile.

That afternoon was the ward trunk-or-treat and chili cook-off. We went and the kids got lots of candy and had fun walking with friends. Joseph trooped around the parking lot like a pro and made everyone smile.
That night, after some dinner and a touch-up on the costumes and make-up the kids went out around our neighborhood with Aaron. Well, all except David who wanted to go by himself this year. He had his heart set on it. Our neighborhood is only a few blocks and I feel like it's safe. Plus Aaron would only be a few houses behind him, so I let him go; but not before decking him out with my cell phone, a flashlight, a whistle, and some strict instructions. He did great and had fun. I'm glad I could let him be independent and feel grown up, even if it is hard to let my "baby" go.
So another season has come and gone and it's time to turn our attention to Thanksgiving and Christmas, heck, the stores are all ready for this. Here's one more look at the kids in their Halloween costumes...
